Yesterday, superstar chef Sean Brock was featured on CBS This Morning. Anthony Mason interviewed him (and his mom, for part of the segment) in his home kitchen. Up on the wall, one of the gorgeous Purvis Young paintings he purchased from the gallery back in the Spring was plainly visible in a few shots. Pardon the clumsy “analog” screengrabs—sometimes my best ideas happen a little behind schedule! Yes, it was completely accidental, unintentional, etc. that it ended up on camera, but I couldn’t help feeling like a parent living vicariously through his kid’s accomplishments, in this case, Purvis’s painting—a strange feeling to have, when we’re talking about an inanimate object. But: it’s art. And that changes things! I’m flattered that Sean found so much here that he loves, including that very nice Purvis Young piece that I still miss. He’s a great guy, and a real visionary who’s bringing a lot of fresh imagination and energy to traditional Southern cuisine. And we’re about to have two of his restaurants in our neighborhood! Check out his new book, “South.” And come to east Nashville!
